Whisky Live New York 2008 Review
New York’s annual celebration of the world’s finest whiskies rolled in to town recently complete with a smart new venue.
Held during Tartan Week, with this most iconic of cities for a backdrop, there is always something special about Whisky Live New York. Whether it is the selection of more than 100 whiskies from across the globe on offer, or just the great spirit of friendliness the evening event engenders, visitors to Live New York always go home with great memories and new friends. The evening’s festival atmosphere was rounded off with great food, and live music performed by the toe-tapping band Mactalla. Those wanting to explore deeper in to their favourite tipples got the chance with the series of Masterclasses. Kicking off the series of classes was Ronnie Cox taking devotees through the world of the award winning boutique whisky,The Glenrothes Ronnie has travelled throughout the world to communicate The Glenrothes story and the brand’s remarkable quality, variety and unique range. Each Glenrothes Vintage has a story to tell.With Ronnie in the lead, every sampling of the brand became a sensory journey into the extraordinary tastes offered by the individual marques. Whether accompanied by the sound of specially-selected classical music, the taste of fine chocolates or simply on their own, the distinctive characteristics of each Vintage of The Glenrothes was brought to the peak of enjoyment under his careful guidance. Following hot on his heels, the Yamazaki team returned with its popular tasting of a full flight of Yamazaki whiskies. Handcrafted at the oldest distillery in Japan,Yamazaki is made from the purest natural ingredients in perfect harmony with nature. Whisky fans got the chance to discover the surprisingly smooth, complex taste and the secret of its ingredients whose uniquely Japanese characteristics have made Yamazaki an international award-winner. Yamazaki Time was not to be missed. Rounding the masterclasses off Four Roses Bourbon Hall of Fame Master Distiller Jim Rutledge covered the ins and outs of Bourbon production, the qualifications of what it takes to be considered a Bourbon and Four Roses’ unique history and brand attributes. Stephen Camisa,Whisky Live New York show director said: “We introduced a lot of variety this year such as the great range of Masterclasses and fantastic live music. “The show has always been a favourite with true whisky enthusiasts but these new features make whisky more accessible for the new and younger whisky generation that increasingly visit the show.” Coming Soon |
