Whisky Live New York 2006 Review

Whisky Live New York celebrated the whiskies of the world on April 5 2006.

Whisky Live, the world’s premier whisky tasting event, sponsored by Whisky Magazine, returned to New York on April 5 when Tavern on the Green transformed itself into a whisky paradise.

More than 850 people enjoyed the evening of whisky fun and were given the opportunity to sample from premier distillers of Whisky, ranging in location from Scotland to Ireland, Japan to Kentucky. There were over 100 brands available to sample:

Whisky Experiences

Distillers not only provided whisky to sample but also a glimpse into the rituals surrounding their brands through various unique experiences, such as:

  • An inviting whisky tent from Bulliet Bourbon and George Dickel with their
    American Outdoor Adventure including cigar rolling.
  • The intriguing Dewar’s 12 VIP Lounge where guests could sip their favourite brand while playing a hand of poker.
  • Classic Malts Selection experience was tucked away behind an alluring curtain where you could sit and blind taste whilst chatting to the masters in the industry.
  • Live coopering displays from Glenfiddich took place outside.

Masterclasses

For aficionados and novices alike Whisky Live featured fascinating Masterclasses hosted by the whisky experts from:

  • Glennfiddich
  • The Glenrothes
  • Laphroaig and The Dalmore

Music

Three fantastic and vibrant bands played at Whisky Live New York providing some real Scottish sounds:

  • Mac Talla M’or, an exciting Celtic World Roots family band playing vibrant and dynamic mix of music from Celtic, Roots Rock, Calypso, blues and jazz.
  • Peatbog Faeries, an eclectic mix of unusual musicians who live, write and record their music in the magical Isle of Skye.
  • Finlay MacDonald, Brings together the tightest of Jazz,Funk grooves with blistering traditional and contemporary Tunes on pipes and fiddle.

Finally…

Delicious and authentic Scottish food was served including haggis and Chef Joe Queen seared scallops live in a burst of heat and flames.
