§ What makes bourbon uniquely bourbon?
§ The ABCs of bourbon tasting
§ Maker’s Mark maturation process
§ A day in the life of Maker’s Mark
Kevin will also talk about his lengthy “trial and error” to create something new and different. After over 50 years Kevin Smith, with the help of Brad Boswell “wood chef”, came up with a new process and a new product-Maker’s 46.
MC2 - 8.45pm - High West
David Perkins, proprietor of High West Distillery in Park City Utah, will lead a tasting of three High West products: Bourye, Rendezvous Rye, and the new High West Silver Oat Whiskey. In addition, David will guide the session through a virtual distillation of High West's new Silver Oat Whiskey and participants will get to taste the distillate at several points of the distillation from the heads to the heart to the tails. In between, David will provide an overview of distillation, its history, what makes different whiskies different, and why he even thought to open a distillery in Utah of all places.
MC3 - 7.00pm - Johnnie Walker
The House of Walker Experience is a multi-media experience that delivers a true journey of taste through the entire Johnnie Walker portfolio. The experience, led by a Master of Whisky, provides a platform to fully understand the individual labels, their story, the best serve and the mood each label best suits. You will leave these events with an increased knowledge of Johnnie Walker and an understanding of what it means to be the world’s best whisky house.
MC4 - 8.30pm - Heaven Hill
Everyone knows that Bourbon is made primarily with corn, and most enthusiasts would know that there are “traditional” Bourbons that add rye and “wheated” Bourbons that substitute wheat for the rye. But what exactly are the differences between these common “small grains”, both in the taste of whiskey and in the production methods? Join Heaven Hill Brand Ambassador Rob Hutchins as we explore how these grains behave on the palate and in the still, in Bourbon mashbills and in straight rye and straight wheat whiskey recipes.
The Oban Whisky Experience
This year we will have the Oban Experience at Whisky Live Los Angeles. An opportunity to relax and sit down and take in all that is Oban with one of the Ambassadors and learn more about this fantastic single malt from the West Coast of Scotland. Oban distillery is physically and spiritually at the heart of Oban - the "Gateway to the Isles". In effect, the town grew up around the distillery and since its foundation in 1794 it has played an important role in local life. This is your chance to get immersed in all that is Oban and sample this amazing member of the Classic Malts.
This is where you can taste an incredible range of whiskies from Scotland to Kentucky, mingle with the producers and distillers, independent bottlers and brand ambassadors and meet the stars of the industry.
You will witness the food pairing demonstration by a world class chef, be able to get his suggestions on your personal tastes, and of course sample some very special treats! Enjoy and gain insight from the whisky competitions and other events on the main stage hosted by Whisky Magazine.
The sheer range of whisky on show will challenge even the most determined taster; everything from old favourites to unusual finishes and rare bottlings. The very best whiskies of the world all under one roof.
