Press release - Warsaw, 26 September 2017

A whisky feast will, once again, make its way to Warsaw.

Yet again, organizers of Whisky Live Warsaw ask all residents of Poland's capital and other countries to take a two day journey through the diverse tastes and aromas of whisky, from almost every corner of the globe. The festival, held on 13-14 October 2017, is a unique opportunity to experience a wide spectrum of colors, aromas and flavors of this exquisite liquor. Numerous attractions are also planned for connoisseurs of fine cuisine.

This year's edition of Whisky Live Warsaw will be the festival's fourth edition taking place in the capital. After last year's very successful edition, the organizers decided to move the festival to Sangate Hotel Airport (ul. 17 stycznia 32, Warsaw). The area reserved for exhibitors and festival guests has tripled compared to the previous venue. This year we will enjoy over 2200 m2 filled with stands, a stage and other attractions. All prepared for whisky lovers. What can we expect from this year's edition?

A record number of exhibitors

The exact number will be known only a few days prior to the event, but already, it is certain that last year's attendance record will be broken. Organizers estimate that almost 80 exhibitors will participate, offering over 500 whisky varieties for tasting. Many of theses will be free of change. Selected, more expensive editions will be open for purchase with special vouchers available at the event.

- the Warsaw festival s a place for national and foreign premieres. In October, for the first time in Poland, we will have a chance to encounter the Swiss Santis whisky, manufactured in the Brauerei Locher AG brewery. The Locher family has been brewing their beer at the feet the Alps since 1886. In 1999, Karl Locher began making whisky, using a local barley variety, old beer barrels and water from nearby springs. Three years later, the first Swiss whisky, Santis Malt, was bottled - says Jarosław Buss, organizer of the annual Whisky Live Warsaw Festival.

This year, during the local Sopot edition, FLOKI, the first Icelandic liquor produced with local barley by Eimverk Distillery, was welcomed with a standing ovation. An interesting fact is that for the smoked version, instead of using peat (to dry the malted barley), they use sheep dung, which did not discourage lovers of strong, smoked whisky. So far, due to shorter maturation in oak barrels, less than the three mandatory years, FLOKI was only available as young malt. However, soon, the first official whisky from the distillery will be released. Other premieres planned for the event are Glenmorangie Astar and Ardbeg An Oa, owned by Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy. During the festival, we have a chance to meet other members of the "brown spirit" family. For the first time in this part of the country, we will welcome Danish A.H. Riise rums for a distillery located in the former Danish West Indies, now known as the Virgin Islands (USA dependent territory). They offer rums finished in a wide variety of casks (i.a. porto, sherry or sweet Sauternes wine).

Main festival stage

Whisky Live Warsaw is more than just tasting whiskies from all around the globe. It is also a chance to meet world authorities on the matter, master blenders, global ambassadors and representatives of distilleries from the entire world.

- We are a part of the global concept Whisky Live events that are a perfect venue for discussions about trends and phenomena occurring in the whisky market, exchanges of opinions on flavors and aromas of this liquor.  We aim to educate our guests who, thanks to this knowledge can later delve into the fascinating world of whisky on their own and discovers its secrets - says organizer, Jarosław Buss.

This year, the festival will focus around the main stage, located at the central point of Whisky Live Warsaw. The organizers prepared an abundant program. There will be meetings with renowned authors of books on whisky. Ingvar Ronde will talk about this year's "Whisky Yearbook 2017” - a must read for whisky lovers. Dominic Roskrow will arrive in Warsaw with the newest edition of the iconic "Michael Jackson's Malt Whisky Companion" that he himself revised. Both books will be available for purchase at the festival store. Presentations, lectures and conversations on whisky will also take place at the festival stage. Entrance to all events is included in the ticket price. To top it of, Georgie Bell - the global ambassador of Bacardi, known to the premium liquor lovers as "miss whisky", will be one of the festival guests.

The Isle of Taste painted yellow

The festival would not be complete without culinary attractions. This year's cuisine concept will surely be appreciated by all lovers of fine cuisine. All this, thanks to a strategic cooperation with Gault&Millau Polska, publisher of the prestigious guide to restaurants and hotels across Poland. In a specially arranged space, called the "Isle of Taste", culinary workshops, live cooking and food pairing shows (with recently more popular whisky pairings) will be held with participation of the best chefs in the country. Guests will have a chance to try cheeses, cold meats in combination with selected whisky varieties as well as sweets and ice cream spiced with this golden liquor. Organizers have also prepared various competitions.

The best whisky of the festival

This year the organizers decided to award the best whisky of the festival. Each exhibitor will have the opportunity to submit one of the whiskies available at their stand. A jury, comprised of national and foreign authorities in the matter, will choose the best liquor. The "Warsaw Whiskies Awards" competition is the effect of a more extensive cooperation with Paragraph Publishing, owner of the Whisky Live concept and organizer of the "World Whiskies Awards" held each year in London.

- We are hoping that the competition will become a permanent feature of the festival and a key element in building recognition and competitive advantage of the winning brand - says Jarosław Buss.

Festival guests will also be faced with the dilemma to choose the tastiest whisky. The audience will select the most popular liquor among the guests of Whisky Live Warsaw. Winners in both categories will receive commemorative diplomas, specially designed statuettes and will be able to use the title in their promotional activity.

Other attractions

A special lecture on investing in whisky will be held for those who enjoy liquors not only for their exquisite taste and rich array of aromas, but also see them as an effective investment tool. Rare Whisky Apex 1000 Index, the broadest indicator of prices in the whisky market, has risen over 140 % over the past five years. Making money on whisky is possible with a bit of expert knowledge. Yet again, the Dram Station will be present with its unique, vintage, limited edition bottles and a chance to purchase small samples into bottles prepared by the organizer.  The Chillout lounge is an area for those who would like to catch a breath and regenerate before heading to visit more stands. In specially arranged cocktail bars, we will also discover that whisky goes well not only with ice or coke. Cocktails will be offered by Bacardi and a well known Irish distillery, Teeling, will offer a devilish mix called Teeling Damn Fine Hot Whiskey for the chillier fall evenings. Of course, the festival would not be complete without Masterclass sessions, closed meetings with representatives of foreign distilleries. One of them will be presented by Celine Tutu, the global ambassador for the Compass Box brand. Apart from the main festival space available inside the hotel, guests will also enjoy a 400 m2 terrace. There that we will find exhibitors offering a wide range of cigars. A number of fine whisky enthusiasts happen to be Cigar Aficionados, who will surely want to exchange their knowledge and experience regarding these premium class products. As usual, guests will find the festival store with its wide offer of whiskies with a VAT discount, located by the hotel exit.
